Avissa Dalla-Costa

WHS Officer
Qualification Achieved
Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety

Why did you want to get qualified?

I’d been doing the role for a while already, running safety on site, doing inspections, toolbox talks, all that. Just got to the point where I thought — I’m doing the work, I may as well have the ticket to back it up. Opens more doors too.

Was anything holding you back?

Yeah, mainly time. I didn’t want to sit in a classroom or smash out heaps of study after work. Plus I wasn’t keen on going through stuff I already knew just to tick a box.

How did you find the RPL process overall?

Honestly, way easier than I expected. It was more about showing what I already do day-to-day. Sending through evidence, having a few chats about my experience — felt pretty straightforward and actually relevant.

How did you find the service and support?

Good as. They didn’t just leave me to figure it out. Walked me through what I needed, kept it simple, and were easy to get hold of when I had questions. No mucking around.

What does having this qualification mean to you personally?

It’s a good feeling knowing I’ve got something official behind me now. Bit of pride in it too — I’ve put the work in on site, and now it’s recognised properly.

How has this qualification helped you?

Gives me more credibility straight away. When you’ve got the cert, people take you a bit more seriously. It’s also opened up better opportunities and puts me in a stronger position moving forward.

What advice would you give another tradie thinking about RPL?

Just do it. If you’ve been doing the work, you’re probably already most of the way there. Don’t overthink it — just get your evidence together and back yourself.

What’s next for you now?

Keep building on it. Looking to step further into safety roles, maybe more senior positions down the track. This was a solid step in the right direction.
